POLASTECH INC. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hiroyuki Kakiuchi), a developer and manufacturer of adsorption heat pumps (AHP) and high‑performance zeolite materials under the brand AQSOA®, is pleased to announce that it has raised seed funding through the issuance of J‑KISS (a Japanese convertible note) to UMI Ventures, Inc. and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation.
Business Background & Target Market
‐Toward a Society Without Waste Heat by 2050-
POLASTECH is a deep‑tech company dedicated to transforming cooling energy systems in data centers and industrial sectors. Our adsorption heat pump technology utilizes low‑temperature waste heat—traditionally discarded—to significantly reduce both electricity consumption and CO₂ emissions. Building on proven technologies, we are accelerating the social implementation of waste‑heat utilization.
The company was established through a carve‑out to strategically inherit Mitsubishi Chemical’s high‑performance zeolite AQSOA® and related AHP technologies, and to accelerate their commercialization. With AQSOA® as the core material, POLASTECH is developing next‑generation cooling solutions that address the growing waste‑heat challenges of data centers in the era of generative AI.
As demand for generative AI and cloud services increases, data‑center electricity consumption is rising rapidly. In particular, low‑temperature waste heat at 50–60°C generated by servers remains largely unused, contributing to higher cooling power requirements and hindering improvements in PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness).
POLASTECH’s AHP system uniquely uses this low‑temperature waste heat directly as its energy source. Unlike conventional electrically driven cooling systems, AHP converts waste heat itself into cooling energy, enabling:
– Significant reduction in cooling electricity
– Improved PUE
– Upcycling of waste heat into valuable energy
– Contribution to decarbonized operations
The system can also be integrated with emerging liquid‑cooling and immersion‑cooling technologies, offering a hybrid solution that further enhances overall data‑center energy efficiency.
POLASTECH will continue to accelerate demonstrations and joint development with domestic and international data‑center operators, engineering firms, equipment manufacturers, and energy companies.
